Holy Trinity’s Music Ministry will present again this year something a little different to celebrate this season of joyful expectation and hope: Advent Lessons and Carols.
“Lessons and Carols” is a traditional art form combining seasonal prayers, scriptural readings and beautiful choral works: a concert within a prayer service. The evening will feature our combined choirs, soloists and instrumentalists.
The “lessons” are the scripture readings chosen to reflect those important events that bring us to Christ’s Incarnation. Each lesson is followed by a “carol” or choral work sung by the choir alone which reflects the preceding reading.
Our lessons and carols take place on the evening of the Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 18 (7:45 p.m.) and so we have taken special care to keep the celebration seasonal and yet anticipatory of the Nativity by choosing music from both the Advent and Christmas seasons.
We really appreciate your support by attending our concerts. Many commented on the quality of the performance and the beauty of the service remarking that the perfect tone was set for the final week of preparation for Christmas. We thank you for that and hope to present another memorable evening of artistry and beauty again this year.
The Advent season affords us a special opportunity to let the peace of Christ dwell in our hearts. Please, take this evening to experience this peace in music, texts, and prayer. (December 4. 2005)
