Holy Trinity is blessed to have a very active Liturgy Committee who meet monthly, with the parish priests, to plan and prepare the various aspects of the liturgies the community celebrates over the course of a year.
One of our newer members, who only joined this past year, remarked recently that before becoming a member of the committee she had absolutely no idea what goes into planning and preparing a liturgy. I’d like to explore the work of the committee: hopefully you will find it informative.
The Calendar for the Liturgical Year guides our work and although the Church year begins in December with Advent we begin in September with the School year and Religious Education programs getting started. As things settle in during October we look at November, a month to remember the dead and those who have gone before us shaping our faith, and also Thanksgiving, an opportunity for the community to celebrate the riches with which we live and to share them with others. The weeks of Ordinary Time Autumn culminate with the Feast of Christ the King.
The new year begins with the first Sunday of Advent, our season of watching and waiting for the Lord. The Christmas season culminates with the Baptism of the Lord and Ordinary Time Winter provides a short respite before the demanding weeks of Lent/Easter take over. Pentecost concludes the Lent/Easter season and we settle in for Ordinary Time Summer and later some lazy weeks of rest and vacation. We are a busy community and a busy committee! Details on what we do next time. (May 30, 2004)
