GIRM Part 2: General Instruction of the Roman Missal
GIRM Part 2: General Instruction of the Roman Missal

Here’s a preview of the few areas where Holy Trinity can improve the liturgy as prescribed by the revised and expanded GIRM. Please look for more on each subject in the weeks to come:

Silence is to be observed at various times during the liturgy. Why and when?

Book of the Gospels is carried in the entrance procession and placed on the altar.  What is the symbolism of the book and where it is placed?

Profound Bow During the Creed
During the recitation of the Creed, all are to make a profound bow at the words: “by the power of the Holy Spirit … and became man.”  What does this gesture demonstrate?

Posture
At the conclusion of the Preparation of the Altar and Gifts, the Presider gestures for the assembly to stand as they begin the response, “May the Lord except this sacrifice . . .”

Communion reverence
“When receiving Holy Communion, the communicant bows his or her head before the Sacrament as a gesture of reverence and receives the Body of the Lord from the minister…the sign of reverence is also made before receiving the Precious Blood.”  (April 11, 2004)
