Denise Peykanu, our "new" organist, actually
comes to us with over 25 years experience as a pastoral musician. Her
music studies include a degree in applied piano and music education
from University of Texas, advanced organ and choral studies at UCLA and
Cal State LA. She has participated in Liturgical Studies coursework at
Mt. St. Mary's College and attends workshops at the local and national
level in Pastoral Music.
Past appointments include Our Lady of
Perpetual Help (Newhall), St. Lawrence Martyr (Redondo Beach)
and American Martyrs (Manhattan Beach). She has served several other
parishes lacally as a substitute when needed (St. John Fisher, St.
Anthony of Padua, St. Margaret Mary and St. James).
Denise considers her appointment at Holy
Trinity to be one of the most significant of her career. Her
relationship with Donna Barnes, our music director, goes back to their
days together at St. Lawrence where their mutual love of music and
liturgy inspired them to collaborate on projects which saw their
professional growth as musicians, teachers and lovers of good liturgy.
Denise was thrilled at the opportunity to renew this spirit of
collaboration in the newly renovated
space at Holy Trinity. She praises the parishioners of Holy Trinity
for their love of singing, spirit-filled liturgies and strong
committment to sacred song. She thanks them for the opportunity to
grow with them spiritually through their prayerful community.
