This
past Saturday at our Retreat for Liturgical Ministers I had the
privilege of presiding (leading) at Morning Prayer. This is one of those
liturgies that does not require an ordained individual to lead.
Standing in front of the assembly I got a different perspective than the
one I usually experience. When I lead music at the 10:00 a.m. Mass I am
closest to the 35 or so voices that make up the Adult Choir, and
although I do hear many members of the assembly singing, it is just not
possible for the assembly’s sound to overwhelm me. But I had the most
extraordinary experience Saturday because instead of the choir there was
only a piano and a cantor and the assembly became the main voice of the
morning praise. And did you sing! What a wonderful sound!
I spoke with Holy Trinity’s other leaders
of song and we all concur: our favorite sound is when the assembly sings
with a full, strong voice, for that it is the purpose of more than 95%
of our music.
Thank you so much for supporting the Music
Ministry with your appreciation of our efforts, your constant
encouragement, and your affirmation of our music; for when you sing with
us we are assured that the sound of our worship will be pleasing to our
heavenly Father! (March 21, 2004)
